We worship, celebrate and remember Christ’s role in our lives together.

Worship

Service Info

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about Park Avenue United Methodist Church!

Our Worship Service is at 10:00 am every Sunday, and generally lasts for about 90 minutes.

We begin each service with intergenerational praise and worship. Vibrant gospel and jazz traditions influence our music, but we also incorporate beloved hymns and contemporary song selections.

Children and youth are dismissed for age-appropriate worship after singing, while adults remain together for a time of prayer, giving and teaching.

On the first Sunday of every month, we celebrate communion with a family-friendly, participatory service incorporating children, youth and adults from the congregation.

Children’s and youth programming is available for crawlers – 12th grade as follows:

  • 1st Sundays: Family Service; toddler and preschool care are available for crawlers – 3 years
  • 2nd- 5th Sundays: toddler care, preschool church, children’s church, and youth worship

If this is your first time visiting, please stop by our Visitors’ Table in the hallway before or after the service. We’d love to meet you! You’re also invited to join us in the Gathering Room for coffee and snacks following the Worship Service.

We also offer a congregation-led, informal “Early Risers” gathering from 8 – 9 am each Sunday for those who prefer a small group worship setting.

When Do I Need To Get There?

It’s a good idea to arrive at least 30 minutes early because our weekend services tend to fill up quickly—sometimes completely—and we have to turn people away. If that happens, we will provide you with a CD that has a sermon and some of our favorite songs so you can get a glimpse of what services are like.

Where Do I Park?

We try to structure parking in a way that allows the maximum amount of people to attend our services. Please follow the team’s instructions when parking. Also, we want to love our neighbors and serve them well, so we ask you not to be mindful of parking in the neighborhoods or retail areas surrounding the church.

What Should I Wear?

You’re invited to come as you are, whether it’s a suit or shorts you feel most comfortable wearing. Our members and attendees tend to dress pretty casual.

“My hope is to see God glorified and treasured in the hearts of His people and to hope and pray for the Lord to continue to grant His favor upon His church so that many sons and daughters in Minneapolis, and globally, will also find their joy and life in Jesus Christ.”

Special Needs

If you have a family with special needs, we would love to serve you. Please contact Jane Doe to discuss specific ways we can serve you. If you are deaf or hard of hearing, we provide sign language interpretation at both services on Sundays.

Ministries

Preschool

In our Preschool ministry (ages birth-K), we strive to create the first building blocks of a strong, gospel-centered foundation for our children. We teach from the Scriptures and help parents proclaim to their kids who God is and what He has done in the person and work of Jesus Christ. During the weekends we sing, dance and teach the Bible to the kids, focusing on our five foundational truths: God made everything, God is in charge of everything, God is good, Jesus came to save sinners, and God wants to talk with us.

Our volunteers are required to be trained and screened, and we maintain strict teacher-to-child ratios to ensure safe care. For health standards, children must be free from fever or symptoms of contagious disease for 24 hours. Let us know of any allergies or medical conditions your child may have.

Baby Dedication

When dedicating your baby, you celebrate a commitment to raise your child in the ways of the Lord. You also commit to joining a community of believers who help you and hold you accountable.

Child Wellness Policy
If your child is ill, they should not be in the nursery. Here are some signs of sickness:

  • Fever
  • Diarrhea
  • A persistent runny nose with substantial discharge
  • Lethargy
  • Hacking or wet-sounding cough

Elementary

In our Elementary ministry (1st-5th grade), we work to continue building up a strong, gospel-centered foundation for our children. We do this by teaching our kids about the nature and character of God—that He is wise, generous, loving and good. Our hope is to partner with parents in the discipleship of their children by creating environments, curriculum and resources that center on the gospel of Jesus Christ. On the weekends we worship through song, tell stories from the Bible and gather in small groups by age to talk about Scripture together.

Our volunteers are required to be trained and screened, and we maintain strict teacher-to-child ratios to ensure safe care. For health standards, children must be free from fever or symptoms of contagious disease for 24 hours. Let us know of any allergies or medical conditions your child may have.

Child Baptism

We treat the baptism of children with special care and have created a class to help parents of 1st – 5th graders walk through the process with their children. The class lasts three weeks, and you must attend all three classes. If your child expresses interest in baptism, please follow these steps:
