“How Our Changing Climate Impacts the Twin Cities”
Wednesday, August 14, 2019 6:30-8pm
Meteorologist Paul Douglas and Rev. Mitch Hescox
Climate change is a confusing and polarizing issue. It may also prove to be the most daunting challenge of this century because children, the elderly, and the poor will be the first to feel its effects. Connecting the dots between science and faith, this talk explores the climate debate and how Christians can take the lead in caring for God’s creation. The speakers answer top questions such as “What’s really happening?” and “Who can we trust?” and discuss stewarding the earth in light of Christian values. “Acting on climate change is not about political agendas,” they say. “It’s about our kids. It’s about being a disciple of Jesus Christ.”

Training: “Teaching Race”
The first step to igniting the fire of justice and equity
is to talk about it. Conversation is necessary to to inspire, to educate, and to promote change. Everyone is an educator! Together we will explore what (and how!) to teach about race and racism. Trainer Benjamin Mchie is an educational consultant, historian and founder of African American Registry® and creator of the Teacher’s Forum subscription service. His curriculum reform model is working with four Minnesota university schools of education teaching programs. In 2017, Mr. Mchie was Governor Dayton’s MLK Day Lifetime Achievement Award winner
