Benevolence Ministry

Cornerstone Thrift Store

Cornerstone Ministry is one of the Park Avenue United Methodist Church’s outreach ministries. Cornerstone provides clothing and household goods to our neighbors and members. Cornerstone is a ministry of blessing where the congregation and community give out of their abundance and expand the circle of giving. Cornerstone is dedicated to joyfully providing high quality, Christlike service that honors the humanity and dignity of all people and moves people toward hope. We provide:

  • Gently used clothing, toys, and household items
  • Laundry supplies and personal hygiene items (when available)

All of these items are priced on a per item, cash-only basis. The average price is $1 per item – if you are able to afford more, we are happy to “round up” your bill! Families or individuals who are unable to pay are welcome, and should speak with a volunteer about their options.

Cornerstone is open to the public and the Park Avenue UMC congregation, regardless of income or zip code.

Donations

We accept new and used, neatly bagged or boxed donations in the Cornerstone reception area. Needs include:

  • Travel-size personal care items
  • Costume jewelry
  • Small household appliances (e.g. toasters, coffee makers), sets of dishes, sets of silverware, and sets of glasses/cups
  • Clothes and shoes that are GENTLY used (clean, current, free of stains and not in need of repair). If you would wear them yourself or give them to a good friend, they are appropriate to donate. We especially need boys youth-sized clothing right now.

You can drop off donations after church on Sundays or Monday evenings. Please keep to these times to help keep our Church clean and less congestion in our hall.

Following these guidelines will cut down on the number of volunteers needed for sorting as well as decrease the amount of trash that is generated by having to dispose of unusable items. Thank you!
