Jevetta Steele, New Gospel Choir Director at Park Avenue Church
I’d like to introduce you to Park’s new Gospel Choir Director. If you were with us last Sunday you know that Jevetta Steele has joined us on an interim basis and, for many of you, needs no introduction. But here’s a little about her anyway.
Jevetta is a member of the internationally acclaimed musical family, The Steeles, and is best known for her Academy Award-nominated performance of Calling You from the motion picture Bagdad Café, which is certified GOLD in several European countries.
An original cast member of the Broadway national and international touring hit The Gospel at Colonus, a featured artist in two operas (Dear Mrs. Parks and African Portraits), a recipient of four gold records, she is also an author of two plays — 2 Queens, 1 Castle and a contributor with Don Cheadle on Point of Revue.
In addition to years of experience in leading church choirs (adult, youth, children), Jevetta has recorded four albums and performed on many major theatrical stages while lending her voice to national artists the likes of Prince, The Sounds of Blackness, Natalie Merchant, and more. Her voice can also be found on local/regional radio and television commercials.
All the accolades are impressive and well-deserved. But let me say, it’s her heart — her heart — that stands out. It only takes a moment with her to know that her love for God and people shines bright. Welcome to Park, Jevetta!
And FYI, Jevetta has begun working with our Gospel Choir and Praise Team for Sunday mornings at Park. Plus, she’s already started preparing for Park’s Christmas concert, scheduled for December 18. If you’d like to be a part of the Gospel Choir, let us know by sending an email to info@parkavechurch.org.
One more thing. Did you see the lineup for our Wednesday Seminar Series? Scroll down below to check it out.
Looking forward to seeing you in worship on Sunday. If you’ve been watching online, come feel the Park vibe in person!
Breathe love, my friends!
