Our beloved old building

By August 8, 2024No Comments

Last week, I shared some good things that have happened recently at Park. Let me pick up on that today to highlight some work on our building and grounds. And a special thank you to Carla Urban who has done A LOT of work to keep us on track with addressing all of our building needs.

Our beloved church building, with its oldest section dating back to 1893 and subsequent additions in 1909, 1950, and 1999, is a testament to our enduring faith and community spirit. As you can imagine, maintaining a structure this historic is no small feat. While we’re excited about some major upcoming projects (a new roof and upgraded heating systems!), we’ve also been diligently addressing a variety of smaller but equally important tasks.

Thanks to the tireless efforts of our dedicated volunteers, Community Service workers, and staff, we’ve made significant progress on our maintenance list:

  • Cleared clogged and slow drains in the Youth Room and other sinks (our volunteer even discovered a table knife and paintbrush down the youth sink!).
  • Painted the back wall of the garage to cover graffiti, restoring its appearance
  • Refreshed a rusty metal door near the parking lot entrance, giving it a new lease on life.
  • Repaired a water-damaged wall in the library, ensuring our reading space remains welcoming and safe.
  • Trimmed overgrown shrubs and trees along the alley
  • Installed a low retaining wall in the alley for added structure.
  • Removed volunteer trees on the playground that were growing too close to the building, ensuring the safety and beauty of our play area.
  • Planted vibrant perennials along the front sidewalk to reduce erosion and add a touch of color to our church’s exterior.

Next time you visit, take a moment to appreciate these improvements! Each one reflects the hard work and dedication of our church community.

We invite YOU to join us in our ongoing efforts! If you’re ready to roll up your sleeves and contribute some sweat equity, please contact us at info@parkavechurch.org. Don’t forget our upcoming Outdoor Workday this Saturday, August 10th, from 9 AM to noon. It’s a wonderful opportunity to lend a hand and meet the fantastic folks making these improvements happen.

Remember to save the date for Sunday Funday, September 8. Immediately following worship, join us for a parking lot party and get your fun on! Food, music, games, and all the things. Also, you’ll have multiple opportunities to sign up to serve in a ministry at Park and join a group to continue growing in faith, hope, and love. Save the date!

And watch for Park Avenue Places of Belonging. As part of our strategic priority called Welcome and Belonging, we have a goal: To help each person discover at least one place of belonging (POB) in addition to worship. In the next couple of weeks, we’ll roll out multiple ways for you to find your POB at Park. Watch for it!

Much love,

Pastor Gregg
