Last Sunday, I kicked off a new sermon series called What Christmas Means to Me. For the next three Sundays, you’ll hear others reflect on the meaning of Christmas for them.
This Sunday is a very special day in our series. We’ll be hearing from the youngest members of our congregation! A few children and youth will join Annie and Darelle during the sermon time to talk about what Christmas means to them. This panel of kids and youth is sure to challenge us to see Christmas in unique ways. I’m sure we’ll laugh a lot, too.
But what about you? What does Christmas mean to you?
The Gospels are not shy about giving us multiple and varied reactions to Jesus’ birth on the first Christmas. I like that because even today, the Christmas season causes us to respond in different ways — joy, sadness, anger, anxiety, celebration (or a mix of all of the above and more). Maybe these next few weeks open a space for you to reflect on the question, what does Christmas mean to you? And maybe that’s something you could have a conversation with family or friends about.
Christmas Season Opportunities
Also, I don’t want you to miss some wonderful Christmas season opportunities. Let me just highlight two.
1. Advent Festival this Saturday morning, December 3rd, 10-Noon. Join us in the Gathering Room for cookies, take-home ornaments, reindeer games, and more! This event is come and go, with a short sing-along in the Gathering Room at 11 am. Bring your grandchildren, your neighborhood kiddos, and your whole family.
2. Christmas Concert, Sunday, December 18, 4 p.m. Continuing with our theme, What Christmas Means to Me, come celebrate with our Gospel Choir and Music Ministry under the direction of Jevetta Stelle and Martial Besombes. Also, a number of special guests will add their voices to a very special Christmas event (see flyer below). Join us and bring a friend or two.
Hope to see you this Sunday. Every week I get to meet folks I haven’t met before. And it’s such a joy! If you’ve been watching online, why not join us? Come experience the goodness of Park in person, and I’d love to greet you face to face.
Breathe love, my friends!
