Don’t Fool Yourself

By April 1, 2022June 2nd, 2022No Comments

Mark Twain said about April Fool’s Day, “This is the day upon which we are reminded of what we are on the other three hundred and sixty-four.”

A little dose of humility for all concerned.

The apostle Paul said to early followers of Jesus in Corinth, “Don’t fool yourself. If some of you think they are worldly-wise, then they should become foolish so that they can become wise. This world’s wisdom is foolishness to God. In the cross of Christ, God chose what is foolish in the world to expose the hollow pretensions of those who consider themselves wise” (1 Cor 3:18-19; 1:27).

So, perhaps it’s a good day to be reminded that God turns our expectations upside down. Becoming a 365-fool for Christ’s sake is something to aspire to. And if we humbly count ourselves in the company of such fools, what a great thing that God chooses to walk among us.

Holy Week Schedule
As you know, Holy Week begins on April 10 with Palm Sunday. Our service will feature the return of our Palm Processional — everyone is encouraged to participate as we open the service! Parents with young ones are especially invited to join in as we march up and down the aisles, waving palms during our opening song. Gather in the rear of the Sanctuary before service.

In case you haven’t seen it, here’s our Holy Week schedule at Park.

April 10: Palm Sunday

  • Live Worship Service at 10 am featuring the return of the Palm Processional – everyone is welcome to participate as we open the service.
  • Iglesia Piedra Viva invites our congregation to join them after our service that day in their tradition of parading around the block with palms.

April 14: Maundy Thursday

  • Community Potluck Soup Supper AND Pie Social at 5:30 pm, with a family-friendly service to follow. Sign up to bring pie (pre-sliced) and/or soup (preheated in a crockpot) on the signup sheet in the Gathering Room.

April 17:  Easter Sunday

  • Pancake Breakfast starts at 8:30 am in the dining room. Donations go to support the Youth Mission Trip to Washington D.C. this summer.
  • Live Worship service at 10 am.

And one more thing: Our Church Leadership Board will hold a Quarterly Town Hall on Sunday, April 10, following worship. Join us in the Gathering Room to hear updates from our Board.

Looking forward to seeing you Sunday for worship, either in person or online. If you’re joining us online, go to the online worship page at 10 AM CST.

Breathe love,

Pastor Gregg
