I want to let you know about two things coming up at Park on Sunday mornings.First, this Sunday, we celebrate Hispanic-Latino Heritage Month. Among other elements in our worship service, we’re excited to have Christian Ledesma, Principal at Roosevelt High School and one of our own, bringing the message. After the service, join us in the Gathering Room for some Hispanic-Latino-inspired snacky goodness!
Second, on Sunday, October 20th, we’re launching a four-week sermon series on Faith & Politics. Here’s the lineup of what’s ahead—I hope you’ll make plans to join us. It’s also a great opportunity to invite a friend interested in exploring how questions of faith and politics intersect. And by the way, I’m thrilled to share that each of our speakers is a member of our congregation.
Faith & Politics Series
Park Avenue Church
Sundays, October 20-November 10, 2024
In a world where political conversations often lead to division, how can faith offer a way forward? As the November 5 general election approaches, Park Avenue Church invites you to join us for a special sermon series, Faith & Politics.
Each week, we’ll welcome special guests who will share how their faith shapes their political perspectives, informs their voting, and guides them in interacting with those who hold differing views. We’ll explore the vital questions: How do we navigate the tension between faith and political engagement? Can we love our neighbors—even when we disagree? And how can God’s grace guide us in conversations that feel difficult or uncomfortable?
Whether you are passionate about politics or weary of the division it can create, this series will provide a fresh, faith-centered perspective. Don’t miss these thought-provoking and timely discussions.
Join us every Sunday, October 20-November 10, 2024, as we seek to live out our faith in every arena of life—including politics. Together, we’ll discover how to be faithful witnesses in a world of competing loyalties.
- October 20: Louis Smith, attorney at Smith Partners, specializing in urban/local government and sustainable communities.
- October 27: Steven Belton, Minister of Preaching at Park Ave UMC and retired President and CEO of Urban League Twin Cities.
- November 3: Sharon Sayles-Belton, former mayor of Minneapolis (1994–2001), the first African American and first woman to hold that position.
- November 10: Rev. Dr. Curtiss DeYoung, racial justice academic, author, activist, and recently retired co-CEO of the Minnesota Council of Churches.
Much love,
Pastor Gregg
