As we reflect on the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., I want to share an inspiring perspective on his vision of the Beloved Community. Rooted in the biblical concept of agape—God’s unconditional love—King envisioned a world where faith and action come together to create justice, peace, and unity.
C. Anthony Hunt identifies ten features of the Beloved Community in King’s work:
- Honoring the image of God in every person
- Seeking peace that is always tied to justice
- Recognizing our interdependence as an “inescapable network of mutuality”
In this vision, love and power work together to build a society where all are valued, and collaboration across differences creates pathways to healing and hope. King’s dream continues to challenge us to align our “creed and deed” and embody God’s love in how we live, work, and relate to others.

And let me extend a personal invitation to you: Join us this Sunday, January 19, for MLK Sunday as we honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through worship, music, and preaching. Together, we’ll remember his enduring call for justice, peace, and love and reflect on how our faith compels us to continue the work of reconciliation and equality. Minister Steven Belton will bring a word to inspire us to carry King’s vision forward in our community and beyond.
Come, be part of this meaningful service, and renew your commitment to the beloved community God calls us to build. Invite your friends and family to join us!
Much love,
Pastor Gregg
